Ice Fishing Methods – There’s a Way for Every Fish

During the winter season fish become inactive. This is a great time for fishing, but some lakes or other bodies of water will have frozen over. This is where ice fishing comes into play. But there are many different ice fishing methods that can be used though. There are various types of fish that are great for ice fishing, including northern pike and kokanee salmon. However, it is important to use the right one of the two main ice fishing methods for getting certain kinds of fish.

The reason why different ice fishing methods are needed for different types of fish is because all types of fish will respond differently to how people fish. The walleye can see in darker waters, but when the water become frozen on the surface it is easier to catch them because walleyes will go to the surface where it is easier to see. Therefore, the ice fishing methods for walleyes should be ones that do not require too great of a depth.

Pikes are easy to catch in the winter, so the ice fishing methods used for them should be simple. Baits can be easily used on them because they will not be as active in the winter and they will want to find something to eat during the season.

As it can be seen it is easy to use ice fishing methods for different kinds of fish to make fishing easier. However, it is important to think about what method is right for the individual fisher. The first of the basic ice fishing methods to consider is that of jigging. This is where a brighter colored lure or bait is used to help attract fish so that they can see some kind of prey in the dark waters of the winter season.

The type of jig used in jigging should vary by fish. Smaller fish can use simple bright colored jigs, but larger fish like walleyes should use larger lures or baits. Some types of fish, including walleyes, will use their sense of smell to find items, so it is good to use jigs will some kind of scent that will be pleasing to the fish.

Tip off is the other of the basic ice fishing methods to use. Whenever a strike happens when ice fishing a flag will be raised from a special device used for tip off fishing. A lure with a hook is also included. However, with this particular method there is no reel involved, as the fish must be brought in by hand. This is a good method for smaller fish but it obviously not recommended for larger fish.

The ice fishing methods to use for ice fishing will be different based on what type of fish is going to be searched for. It is best to look for the best ice fishing method for the particular fish that is going to be searched for.
