Warmth hindering ice safety

FAIRMONT -Mother Nature's game of "hot and cold" this winter continues to torment ice-fishing enthusiasts, and makes it more risky for those who choose to venture out on the lakes.

Ice conditions unsafe in state

The record setting warm spell over much of Iowa has eliminated ice fishing over the southern two-thirds of the state and is stressing ice quality on many of the northern lakes.

Normally this time of year, high temperatures would be in the mid 20`s, instead we`re enjoying much warmer weather, which could create problems for people who enjoy ice fishing. The Game and Fish Department said people are still going fishing but the ice isn`t as thick as it has been in past years.
